About this role
As a Learning Technologist at Wiltshire Police, you will play a pivotal role in advancing digital learning within policing, utilising virtual and digital platforms to enhance training and education. A key focus of this role is the implementation of a new Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring that all training content is inclusive, accessible, and pedagogically sound. You will act as a subject matter expert in learning technologies, developing interactive learning materials while managing multiple projects with tight deadlines. Your responsibilities include creating and adapting learning content, producing transcripts and captions for accessibility, proofreading to ensure accuracy, and enabling learning through innovative use of technology to support diverse learner needs.
Key responsibilities
- Apply learning design principles for adult learners to ensure the high pedagogical quality of programmes, modules and short courses
- Work with academic professionals, lecturers and other subject matter experts in a collaborative, consultative fashion, helping them adapt or create content, activities and assessment that is suitable for online learning.
- Make design choices resulting in resources and activities that are: Effective – so that content is clear and easy to understand and remember as possible without compromising on academic rigour
- Engaging – so that students are motivated to complete courses effectively with high satisfaction.
Experience:
- Professional experience in an e-learning environment.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Moodle, Blackboard and EdX.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Teams, Stream, and SharePoint.
- Development of online learning content and products.
- Experience with College of Policing products (desirable but not essential).
Skills:
- Excellent IT skills and technological understanding of IT systems and applications.
- Technical skills in managing and developing web-based information systems.
- Ability to communicate complex information to non-specialists, facilitate workshops, and deliver presentations.
- Organisational skills to prioritise and deliver projects on time and to a high standard.
- Innovative and creative problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with virtual learning environments (VLE).
- Understanding of SCORM.
- Knowledge of learning evaluation theories and practices.
- Awareness of equality and diversity issues in the workplace.
- Understanding of confidentiality, Data Protection, and Freedom of Information issues.
Qualifications:
- A degree or professional qualification in computer technology, instructional systems design, or a related field is advantageous.
- NVQ 3 or 4 in learning and development, or a CIPD certificate in training practice, would be beneficial but not essential.
