We have a 18 hour permanent part-time Ward Clerk vacancy based on our Children’s Unit. The vacancy is for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 2pm-8pm. Later start date may be considered to suit the right candidate.

This key role requires comprehensive administration support for the Children’s Unit. You will require excellent communication and organisational skills with a degree of flexibility.

The ability to speak Welsh is an essential requirement for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To provide an effective, efficient and comprehensive clerical support service for the ward, within the guidelines for the Directorate, to include: answer ward telephone and deal with general queries from patients, medical and nursing staff and members of the public.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Provide administrative administration support to the Children’s Unit.

Duties include:

Answering the telephone dealing with general enquires

Meeting and greeting patients and families

Prepare medical and nursing records

Filing

Admitting and discharging patients

Any other administration duties necessary for the ward

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • English GCSE Grade D or above or equivalent Essential Skills L2
  • Maths GCSE Grade D or above or equivalent or Essential Skills L2
  • Welsh Grade C or above or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ L2 Administration or equivalent
  • NVQ L2 Customer Service

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Working with the public
  • Working in a busy environment

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience working within the health care sector
  • General experience of administration functions

Aptitude And Abilities

Essential criteria

  • IT/Computer literate
  • Effective communication skills
  • L3 Welsh speaking

Desirable criteria

  • WPAS knowledge
  • Case note tracking
  • Knowledge of data protection and patient confidentiality
