Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) for a band 6 specialist paediatric radiographer due to role progression within the department.
We're looking for an experienced diagnostic radiographer with the skills to be an effective team leader at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest teaching trusts across the country. It is one of the few major trauma centres for children in England. It provides a full range of specialities including paediatric cardiac, neurosurgery, oncology and orthopaedics for not just our local population but children across the south of England and the Channel Islands.
We are the paediatric major trauma centre for the south of the region.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The role will involve:
Successful applicants can be offered a development role (Band 5 to 6 Preceptorship). The development role supports the Band 5 radiographer in developing their skills and demonstrating their ability to work as a Band 6. The preceptorship will have the duration of 3-6 months. This is competency based and during the preceptorship period the radiographer will be expected to complete the required assessments/stages to achieve essential competencies to undertake the role of specialist paediatric radiographer.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The role will involve:
- Undertaking all aspects of general and trauma radiography, and fluoroscopy imaging for the children being looked after by Southampton Children's Hospital.
- Providing high quality imaging for in-patients, out-patients, GPs and trauma patients.
- Full participation in the shift roster covering the 24/7 service is essential.
- Taking on the role of team leader in the children's radiology department
- Serving as a mentor and teacher for students, supernumerary staff and junior members of the team.
- Taking on additional responsibilities to contribute to the management of the department which will add to your CV appeal.

- HCPC Registration
- Considerable post graduate experience of working in a department using IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017 regulations in clinical practice
- Appropriate BSc Radiography degree
- Team player who can also work independently.
- Able to work within protocols
- Sound knowledge of all areas of Governance including H&S, COSHH, Manual Handling
- Experience of teaching, mentoring, and supporting colleagues training and development.
- Proven ability to effectively adapt imaging technique when necessary
- Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including responding appropriately to distressed patients and staff and distressing circumstances e.g. suspected physical abuse, major trauma, cancer and death.
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Previous supervisory/team leading experience
