Are you a security expert with a passion for protecting critical infrastructure? We’re looking for a Security Specialist to join our Health, Safety, Security & Wellbeing team within the Chief Engineer function. This is a pivotal role for a Technical Expert who thrives in a dynamic environment and is ready to shape and strengthen our protective security landscape.

Are you a security expert with a passion for protecting critical infrastructure? We’re looking for a Security Specialist to join our Health, Safety, Security & Wellbeing team within the Chief Engineer function. This is a pivotal role for a Technical Expert who thrives in a dynamic environment and is ready to shape and strengthen our protective security landscape.
Key Accountabilities
- Engage with government and law enforcement agencies (e.g. NPSA, DEFRA, NCSC, CTSAs).
- Conduct site categorisation, threat/risk assessments, and develop protective security strategies.
- Lead audits, support SEMD returns, and manage assurance programmes.
- Provide technical design input and security advice for projects and contractors.
- Monitor emerging threats and ensure compliance with evolving standards.
- Lead investigations into both people and physical security incidents.
- Mentor junior staff and support national security exercises.
- Act as a regional SME, building strong stakeholder relationships.
About You
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You’re a proactive, strategic thinker with a strong background in physical and personnel security, ideally within the water or infrastructure sectors. You’re confident engaging with senior stakeholders and regulatory bodies, and you bring a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.
Essential Experience
- Security risk assessments, audits, and mitigation strategies.
- Familiarity with SEMD, PSG, WUKSS, and NPSA standards.
- Use of VSS, IDS, access control, and other security technologies.
- Experience in counter-terrorism, threat analysis, and resilience planning.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Experience in the water industry.
- Knowledge of regulatory and critical national infrastructure requirements.
- Degree or equivalent in a security-related discipline.
- Security certifications (e.g. CISSP, CompTIA Security+, RSES, CSyP) or willingness to obtain.
- SC clearance (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid UK driving licence.
