We produce market-leading photonic switches for advanced fibre optic communications networks. Process Engineers report to the Manufacturing Process Engineering Manager and supports the Engineering and Operations strategy for the development and introduction to manufacturing of new products, materials, and processes.
- Provide support for continuous improvement to the assembly and test processes, helping to solve issues when they arise, and providing technical support for customer enquiries.
- Help to drive the introduction of new products and processes, ensuring sufficient focus is placed on Design For Manufacturability/Cost/Reliability/Test, and supporting the qualification and transfer to manufacturing
- Optimizing process conditions for precise alignment and laser soldering / welding, or similar processes, of micro components such as piezoelectric transducers and optical components using automated or manual processes.
- Identify, qualify and transfer to manufacturing changes to materials or processes
- Educated in an engineering subject to degree level or BTEC HND with additional experience
- Substantial experience in developing and qualifying assembly and test processes in high-technology areas such as fibre-optics or communications products, including the successful qualification and transfer to manufacturing of new products and assembly processes for high reliability applications
- Hands-on experience in high-precision assembly process technologies
- Able to conceptualize assembly and test methods and to understand interactions between components, processes and product performance
- Organised and able to keep track of multiple tasks simultaneously
- Able to design and run experiments and report conclusions effectively
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels, including with suppliers and customers
- Able to travel to volume manufacturing sites and key vendors when required
- Energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to quality and on-time delivery
- Experienced in data compilation and analysis, and able to use numerical, experimental and statistical problem-solving, familiarity with PowerBI advantageous
- Experience in Automation processes advantageous
