Mechanical Engineering Technician

The mechanical workshop is an integral section of Radiotherapy Service, within the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital; its primary purpose is to design, develop and manufacture specialist bespoke patient treatment aids, individualised immobilisation devices and medical accessories to aid in the accurate location of patients undergoing radiotherapy.
This is an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven individual to work with the Chief Mechanical Engineer, and be responsible for the design, development and support of special bespoke products.
Previous experience within a clinical environment is desirable but not essential, support and training are offered ensuring excellent career prospects.
The successful candidate will be appraised on a yearly basis, and with a view to develop their knowledge and skills where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
You will carry out design, development and manufacture of bespoke patient treatment aids and novel devices for both the Radiotherapy Service and other clinical areas across the wider Health Board.
You will create detailed technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
Manufacture prototypes and final products using a range of workshop equipment and techniques, for example 3D printing, manual machining, and fabrication.
Design and fabricate precision tools to aid in the manufacture of prototypes and final products using manual machining and grinding techniques.
Conduct thorough testing and evaluation of manufactured products to ensure safety and functionality.
Collaborate with clinical staff to understand their needs and provide technical support.
Ensure compliance with international standards when identifying, evaluating, and selecting solutions.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- Degree in relevant subject or recognised equivalent (e.g. HNC/HND) or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
- Recognised welding qualification
- Certificate in workshop safety

- Academically trained with extensive experience on Computer Aided Drawing packages, Computer Aided Machining, and all forms of welding techniques.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience of machining and fabrication.
- Experience of all forms of welding techniques.
- Experience of QA systems, particularly ISO 9001.
Essential criteria
- Ability to solve problems under pressure and adapt to a variety of situations
- Good interpersonal & communication skills with different staff groups.
