Role Overview

As a Senior Field Service Engineer, you will be the technical face of Rapiscan’s Cargo Vehicle Inspection (CVI) systems. This role combines advanced engineering expertise, customer interaction, and international travel—primarily in Bulgaria, with occasional assignments across neighboring regions.

Responsibilities

System Installation & Maintenance

  • Lead installation, diagnostics, and repair of complex CVI systems, including PLCs, X-ray technologies, and multi-disciplinary components.
  • Perform maintenance, overhaul, and servicing of mobile and static cargo systems.
  • Troubleshoot faults and ensure systems are fully operational.

Technical Support & Training

  • Respond to third-line technical queries from engineers, distributors, and customers.
  • Provide post-acceptance and defect liability support.
  • Deliver basic operational and technical training to end-users.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete service reports, engineering change requests, and maintain service databases.
  • Submit timely Oracle reports for labor, expenses, and materials.
  • Ensure documentation complies with company standards.

Customer Engagement

  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with customers, considering cultural and language differences.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service for timely delivery of parts and materials.
  • Ensure work is executed as planned during service visits.

Tools & Equipment Management

  • Maintain company-issued tools, vehicles, and devices in safe working condition.
  • Manage field service toolsets, mobile devices, laptops, and phones.
  • Ensure timely calibration and return of test equipment.

Compliance & Conduct

  • Follow all Health & Safety protocols and company safety programs.
  • Adhere to ISO standards and contractual requirements.
  • Uphold company values: Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and Teamwork.
  • Report quality issues and support corrective actions.

Team Collaboration

  • Support fellow engineers and share feedback with QA, Engineering, and Production teams.- Mentor local staff and contractors when required.

Qualifications

Travel & Flexibility

  • Willing to travel internationally up to 20%, including Europe, CIS, Central & SW Asia, Middle East, and Africa.
  • Able to adapt to changing duties and deploy at short notice.

Technical Expertise

  • Experience with integrated mechanical, electrical, and digital systems (e.g., engines, PLCs, drive systems, transmitters, receivers, circuits, IT infrastructure).

Problem-Solving & Leadership

  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently under challenging conditions.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills in diverse environments.

Communication Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication, capable of explaining technical concepts to varied audiences.

Operational Resilience

  • Preferred experience in high-security or high-risk environments (e.g., military service), demonstrating discipline and adaptability.

Education & Certifications

  • Formal qualification in engineering (e.g., BTEC, City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent).

Systems Knowledge

  • Hydraulic systems: fluid power components and maintenance.
  • Electrical/electromechanical systems: wiring, control panels, mechanical integration.
  • IT networking: ideally certified (e.g., CCNP) for system connectivity and diagnostics.
  • Integrated systems: PLCs, high-voltage systems, and X-ray technologies.

Field Service Experience

  • Hands-on experience in field service operations, with readiness for international travel and real-world problem-solving.
