Main duties of the job
The specialist medicine team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are delighted to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for a customer focussed, friendly and enthusiastic individual, as part of our expanding service as a Clinical Nursing Associate.
The post holder will work as part of the Managed Care Infusion team in providing specialist care to our patients in our Infusion unit. Our service offers the opportunity to work and develop in a supportive and friendly nurse led environment.
Managed Care Unit is a medical nurse led treatment centre which offers biologic treatments and other medical infusions to patients with autoimmune and long-term medical conditions. We administer Iron infusions, blood transfusions and monitor patients with chronic anaemia.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
We are looking for an individual who is caring, hardworking, passionate, friendly, innovative, enthusiastic and who loves to take initiative.
You will work in a busy Infusion Unit working with trained experienced nurses to admit and discharge patients.
You will be able to handle your own workload and work independently within the limits of your profession, liaising with a multidisciplinary team when required.
You will perform venesections and cannulations
You will write discharge summaries for patients who attend the Infusion unit for treatment.
You will provide drug counselling for patients commencing new treatments.
You will administer oral medications, subcutaneous and intra-muscular injections and clear IV fluids.
You will safely escort patients to and from wards/departments as per current Trust policy. Providing a safe and accurate handover.
Part of your duties will involve taking laboratory results via the telephone and computer systems, analysing them and acting accordingly
You will screen the bloods of patients to avoid failed admissions and ensuring that appointments are cancelled in time.
You will check prescriptions for patients coming in to Managed Care for treatment and liaise with various medical team ensuring the prescription list is up to date.

This is a part time role offering 23.5 hours
We operate during the day from 07:30-20:00 hours on a shift pattern of early shift 07:30-15:30 and late shift 12:00-20:00. Monday to Friday .
We are closed on weekends and bank holidays.

- Nursing Associate on the NMC register.
- OR Assistant Practitioner with a health-related Foundation Degree e.g. Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care.
- OR Overseas nursing qualification without NMC registration at UK Academic level 5 Evidence of numeracy and literacy – minimum national qualification level 2
- Experience of working under appropriate supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
- Knowledge of nursing procedures and practices in an acute hospital setting.
- Assessed as competent to administer medications.
- Acute apprenticeship units as appropriate to UHS Care Group/Divisional requirements.
- Extended clinical skills e.g. venesection/cannulation.
