The Role

The Estimator will work across multiple Transport for Wales (TfW) directorate teams (Transport Planning and Development, Commercial and Infrastructure) and have a key role in ensuring robust and accurate budget estimating is provided throughout TfW's portfolio of works.

Role Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate and comprehensive estimates within set timescales by working closely with the following teams (Project Management, Post Delivery Estimating, Commercial, Planning, Sponsorship and Engineering) to ensure schemes are deliverable for the associated budget.
  • Review provided information (including drawings and scope) with reference to the measurement and quantification required to compile a comprehensive cost estimate and correspond with project teams (via email and in person) to achieve clarity.
  • Contribute to the establishment and management of Operations and Maintenance budgets by advising budget holders on likely cost impacts of works and services required to meet specific timescales.
  • Provide proactive support and advice to Project Management, Commercial and Procurement teams with tenders and/or contract price analysis by cross referencing historic and database project costs with reference to baseline and revised estimates to ensure value for money is attained.

Who We're Looking For

  • Qualified or working towards a degree in relevant field, such as Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in estimating for infrastructure projects, ideally within the transport, rail, or construction sectors.
  • Familiarity with measurement and costing of construction projects
  • Working knowledge of Rail Method of Measurement (RMM) documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g. Causeway).

Welsh Language Skills

While not essential for this role, Welsh language skills would make a great addition to your application.
