A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the Clinical Engineering and Measurement Group within the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to participate in a structured program of training which will include on the job experience, external training courses and completion of either a Level 3 Healthcare Engineering Specialist Technician apprenticeship or a Person BTEC Level 4 apprenticeship in Healthcare Science (Clinical Engineering). The course fees are fully funded by this post.

Completion of the apprenticeship and competency targets will ultimately enable the apprentice to join the Academy of Healthcare Science accredited register and practice as a Healthcare Science Assistant/Associate or continue further training at Level 6 to join the Register of Clinical Technologists.

This Band 3 Assistant Clinical Technologist role will give the post holder the chance to gain experience and an understanding of medical devices used within clinical areas and how they relate to patient care.

The post holder will play an important role in ensuring that medical devices are effectively used across the Trust. This will include supporting the activities of both the medical device equipment library & workshops where the post holder will engage in acceptance activity, preventative maintenance & gain an introduction to fault finding. The work will extend to clinical areas across all Trust sites & on occasions into community locations.

The successful candidate will have good communication skills, be organised, have a high regard to detail & be able to concentrate for long periods. The role does involve a high degree of manual handling.

The successful candidate will complete a 2 or 3 year apprenticeship program, depending on previous qualifications, alongside workplace training and competency completion. Protected time will be given to complete the off the job element of the training.
