Main duties of the job

The Wessex Trauma Network (WTN) is inviting expressions of interest for their Clinical Governance Lead and Deputy Clinical Director.

If you are an expert Major Trauma clinician with a keen interest in clinical governance? Would you like to influence Major Trauma care across Wessex and the South East? Are you currently working within the Wessex Trauma Network? Yes! Then this role is for you!

This role is 1PA / 4hrs / week. The Wessex Trauma Network has been operational since 2nd April 2012 and serves a population of approximately 3.3M. The WTN stretches from Portsmouth, in the east, Dorchester, in the west, Basingstoke to the north with the Isle of Wight being the most southerly point. University Hospital Southampton (UHS) is the designated major trauma centre (MTC) for the both adults and paediatrics, with the other acute Trusts acting as Trauma units or local emergency hospitals within the hub and spoke model of trauma care.

What You’ll Do

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This challenging role will support the WTN Clinical Director and Manager in developing, reviewing and managing all aspects of Major Trauma care with a particular focus in Clinical Governance. The Deputy CD and Clinical Governance lead is responsible for ensuring that the Wessex Trauma Network meets the peer review standards for Major Trauma Networks as per the national specifications. In addition this role will act as deputise for the clinical director when required.

An expert in Major Trauma care, a nurse, AHP or consultant with a keen interest in Clinical Governance and progressing Major Trauma care across Wessex.

  • Professional registration (NMC / HCPC or GMC)
  • Currently employed in a substantive position by a Wessex Trauma Network provider organisation
  • Managing change

  • Credibility within the field of Major Trauma
  • Medical applicants – practicing at consultant level within a Major Trauma speciality
  • Nursing / AHP applicants – Extensive (7+yrs) experience within a Major Trauma Speciality, working as an expert in their field.
  • Post graduate education within the field of Major Trauma

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in risk management / clinical governance
