Job Description
This is an opportunity to join the Environment Agency as a Water Resources Planner, We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies. You will work with Water Companies, Internal colleagues as we work to secure sustainable water supplies beyond 2050. The role will require working directly with the Water Industry on their statutory requirements to build resilience at both Company and Regional level at a time of climate change and the challenges this brings at a local, regional, and national level.
The role will include working in & supporting virtual teams in the delivery of water resources work as well as an opportunity to develop your own skills, knowledge, and experience to enhance your career opportunities with the Environment Agency. You will provide administrative support to the wider teams as well as work on pieces of work in support of the wider aims and goals of the Environment Agency. There will be opportunities to broaden your experience by being part of a wide array of different groups working on People, HSW, EDI, where bringing people together will enhance the output and support the wider operation.
This role will be based within 1 of 3 water resources teams dependent on location but will focus on a range of New Appointment & Variation companies which are small water supply companies based across the country. These companies differ from the larger companies such as Thames Water, Severn Trent size companies in that they have locations across the country and are not located within one geographical area. Successful candidates will need to be able to work from one of the City/town listed in the advert to work within our hybrid working model split between office and home working.
The team
The team work with Water Companies on their statutory requirements to supply water to the Public, Agriculture & Industry within England’s borders alongside internal Environment Agency & External Partners colleagues such as Natural England. Our main customers are Water Companies within England.
The team influence and ensure the right investment and decisions are made by water companies to protect and enhance the immediate and longer-term future needs of water supply, the ecology, and the environment.

The role has hybrid working split between the office and home along with some travel for internal or external meetings and training.

Interviews will be carried out week commencing 14th October.
As a category 1 responder the Environment Agency attends incidents such as flooding or Pollution incidents and as a new member of the team you will play your part by taking on an incident response duty, more details can be found in the candidate pack.

- Effective communication skills.
- Educated to GCSE standard or Equivalent (C or 4 or above in GCSE English & Maths).
- Positive & Enthusiastic attitude.
- Able to respond positively to change.
- Able to work as part of a team or independently off your own initiative.
- A basic working knowledge of Microsoft applications, word, outlook & excel.
- Good data analysis skills.
- Experience of achieving work/tasks against timescales.
- Experience of working with customers.
- Basic knowledge of Water resources work would be advantageous but not essential.
- Experience of using office 360, including SharePoint.
