The View Magazine seeks skilled, justice-driven writers/editors to create bold, global content on maternal incarceration. Volunteer remotely 8–10 hrs/wk. Help expose injustice, uplift women’s voices, and drive radical reform in the justice system.
What difference will you make?
DescriptionWe are looking for 3–4 experienced volunteer writers and editors with a deep passion for justice, feminism, and human rights to join The View Magazine for our fourth edition, which focuses on maternal incarceration and trauma in the criminal justice system. This is an opportunity to use your storytelling and editorial skills to amplify the voices of incarcerated mothers, challenge systemic injustice, and drive radical reform through powerful, purpose-driven content. Skills, Experience and Qualities Required 1. Strong Writing and Editing SkillsYou should be able to produce clear, compelling, and emotionally resonant content with excellent grammar, structure, and tone. You’ll need experience in long-form writing, interviewing, and editing for accuracy, sensitivity, and impact. 2. Trauma-Informed and Ethical ApproachWe work closely with women affected by the justice system. You must be able to write and edit with empathy, confidentiality, and care, maintaining dignity and respect for every contributor. A trauma-informed mindset is essential. 3. Interviewing and Research AbilityYou should feel confident conducting interviews (by phone, video, or in writing), and turning those conversations into feature stories or Q&As. You’ll also be expected to conduct research and cite sources to support content. 4. Strong Time ManagementThis is a remote role requiring 8–10 hours per week. You must be self-directed, organised, and able to meet deadlines under minimal supervision. 5. Commitment to Feminist and Anti-Carceral ValuesYou should be passionate about gender justice, abolitionist thinking, and human rights. We’re looking for people who care deeply about the lived experiences of women in prison and are ready to support lasting change. 6. Global Awareness and InclusivityThough The View is based in England, our focus is international. An understanding of global justice issues, and the ability to work across diverse perspectives and lived experiences, is key. BonusExperience writing book reviews, transcribing recordings, mentoring new writers, or contributing to advocacy campaigns is a plus. You’ll be joining a passionate, creative, and supportive team committed to telling stories that matter. We can’t wait to work with you.

We’re currently working on our 4th edition, which focuses on maternal incarceration and trauma in the criminal justice system. We’re seeking 3 or 4 experienced writers and editors with a passion for justice and feminism who want to help facilitate radical reform in the criminal justice system.

- Deepen the NarrativeYour storytelling will elevate the lived experiences of incarcerated mothers—highlighting trauma, injustice, and resilience. Through trauma-informed editing, you’ll ensure every piece is respectful, accurate, and ethically presented. 2. Expand Our Reach and InfluenceWith your expertise, you’ll help broaden our audience—from justice advocates to policymakers—while shaping content that influences public opinion and drives reform. Your voice will help make these vital stories impossible to ignore. 3. Strengthen the Feminist Justice LensYou’ll highlight the intersections of motherhood, incarceration, gender, race, and class. Your work will not just expose injustice—it will propose solutions and reflect the strength and agency of the women at the heart of these stories. 4. Help Build a MovementYou’ll join a community of changemakers, including women with lived experience, to help create a bold and inclusive platform. You’ll also have the chance to mentor emerging writers and contribute to an editorial vision that’s rooted in truth, justice, and empathy.
