We are keen to welcome to our Trustee team someone who will take on the Deputy Chair, working with the Chair to support Board renewal and succession planning. Also, representing Abbeyfield Reigate locally and at national Abbeyfield events.

What difference will you make?

Abbeyfield Reigate has provided sheltered accommodation for older people in Reigate for over 50 years. The residents really appreciate the work we have done in recent years to upgrade the house and provide a cosy home which has the capacity for a maximum 10 residents. The Deputy Chair will play a key role to help the develop the team and supporting resources to ensure the charity continues in its mission for the next 50 years.

What are we looking for?

Experience in team leadership, including recruitment and development of a team to achieve their potential Business Planning and operational deployment of plans within budget targets Identifying resource gaps and finding ways to fill those gaps either by growing the staff team, volunteer base or external suppliers. Experience in volunteer management would be a bonus - but is not essential The ability to commit circa 10 hours per month for trustee meetings and ad hoc discussions. An understanding of legal duties of charities and trustees - training courses are available to broaden a candidates knowledge. Good, independent judgement, and an ability to think creatively. An ability to work effectively as a team, taking on board the recommendations from externally appointed experts, but contributing an independent perspective.

What will you be doing?

Alongside the statutory duties of a Trustee, the main duty of the Deputy Chair Trustee is to Lead Board meetings and other Abbeyfield related meetings as required, representing the charity externally when the opportunity arises work with the Chair to enable both staff and the rest of the Trustee team achieve their objectives and grow in their roles work with the Trustee team to develop the strategy and business plan for the charity Lead on succession planning for key volunteer and trustee roles
