Salary £10,212.35 per annum

Permanent, Part Time, 16 hours per week

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP Oakwood is one of the largest prisons in England and Wales, providing places for up to approximately 2100 Category C male prisoners.

We now have an opportunity for a Stores Operative to join our Facilities Management Team at HMP Oakwood.

The successful candidate will ensure goods are received, stored and distributed correctly and the prison stores are maintained to the highest standard at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring that day to day stock control takes place so that appropriate stock levels are maintained.
  • Operate a computer based stock control system so that correct data is recorded in a timely fashion and available as required.
  • Transport stock items to the required location so that items are available for timely use
  • Document accurately all work carried out in accordance with the company systems and procedures.
  • Dispose of damaged stock appropriately so that health and safety requirements are met.
  • Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes the reporting of accidents and near misses in a timely manner and the application of safe systems of work for the role.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills

  • A full driving licence
  • Good attention to detail


Desirable Skills

  • Fork Lift Truck licence
  • Experience in manual and/or computerised stock control systems
