This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Education & Training, acting as their deputy and supporting the coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of training for all non-registered pharmacy staff, including assistants and technicians, across the department.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Technician - Training & Education will be the line manager for Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs). The post holder will be supported by the Lead Pharmacy Technician – Education and Training to deliver and maintain the highest standards of training within the department which will in turn lead to an exceptional pharmacy service delivered to the hospital.

The post holder will support the effective management of the initial education and training (IET) for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants, including the Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, Level 2 qualifications for Pharmacy Assistants and to maintain oversight of the extended roles of Pharmacy Technicians, including ACPT, Educational Supervisors, MOPT etc.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Lead in the formal training of PTPTs and pharmacy assistants, fulfilling the role of tutor, assessor or expert witness as appropriate to enable them to achieve the formal and professional qualification necessary to undertake their roles.
  • Responsible for line management of pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians, including recruitment, managing performance issues, sickness, appraisals, annual leave and any other grievances or disciplinary issues with the support of the Technical Learning and Development Manager.
  • Within a framework of continuous professional and personnel development, assist in ensuring that training and development needs of all supporting staff are identified and that all identified needs are met where possible, to improve effectiveness, job satisfaction and motivation.
  • Provide training to dispensary staff and those rotating through dispensary ensuring that training records are kept up to date, completed and signed off.
  • Ensure training is completed in line with Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) and staff members are fully supported until they are deemed competent and feel confident completing tasks.
  • Ensure correct training programmes are set for new staff members based in dispensary or rotating through dispensary and that they have the support required to complete the training.
  • Support the Dispensary Manager to implement and maintain the Foundation Pharmacy Framework for pharmacy technicians so that they are developed within their roles.
  • Act as a Schools Ambassador, working with the Trust Education Centre Team, participating in external activities showcasing career paths within Pharmacy and developing leaflets/posters/videos to share with the public.
