As a Site Reliability Engineer supporting HMRC, you play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical network tooling and automation systems. Your work enables BT to deliver high-quality, secure, and efficient connectivity solutions that directly support HMRC’s operational and strategic objectives. From managing complex lab environments and virtualised networks to implementing automation and monitoring tools, your contributions will help streamline operations, improve service continuity, and drive continual service improvement across a mission-critical government network.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide tooling, network and lab support for the HMRC network estate across multiple monitoring and automation products.
  • Installation, configuration (including Networking), administration and troubleshooting, as well as deployment and management of VMs. (VMware vCenter 7 experience preferable).
  • Contribute to Continual Service Improvement.
  • Receiving of new project implementations and designs to live support.
  • Technical Authority review of proposed changes to ensure quality and reduce risk.
  • Lead and Manage Investigations allocated by the Network Tooling Manager.

What we'd like to see on your CV

  • Experience and understanding of working in a support environment and on government and large-scale complex networks and tooling implementations
  • Excellent understanding of LAN, WAN, VPN and wireless networking
  • Extensive experience of hands-on technical tools
  • ITIL Service Management Foundation certified
  • Knowledge of network virtualisation techniques such as EVE-NG or CML.
  • Scripting such as Python, Javascript, powershell, SOAP, XML & XSLT
  • SNMP/MIBS/OID/CDP/OSPF/Automation & Integration/Ansible
