Main duties of the job
There has never been a more exciting time to join the paediatric workforce in the emergency department (ED) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). We are looking for enthusiastic and committed registered nurses to join our expanding team as a Sister/Charge Nurse.
Within a large teaching hospital, we’re also the regional children’s major trauma centre. The purpose build service is a standalone department offering the following facilities – an 11-trolley acute illness and injury service, a safe room, eight bedded children short stay, children’s X-ray within the service, a treatment/procedural room.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
What you'll do
To act as a role model to nursing staff, encouraging effective working relationships and the development of a cohesive nursing team, working with a common philosophy.
To supervise the professional work of nursing staff and exercise good leadership skills.
To maintain competence and knowledge within area of specialism, initiating changes benefiting the standard of care to patients and encouraging staff to do the same.
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, ensuring any changes are communicated to the relevant parties.

We are seeking to employ a band 6 children’s nurse with urgent care experience. Our service has a friendly and dynamic team and works in this fast-paced environment. If you are a motivated, passionate, committed, and enthusiastic team player keen to join the senior nursing team this is a role for you.

- Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
- Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
- Significant post registration experience, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
- Ward management/management of areas in ED experience
- Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
- Experience in an acute hospital setting
- Provide evidence of supporting /managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
