The role

The GPU Datapath team is a unique applied research team with a remit both to research and to deliver high-performing hardware. You will be a vital part of the development of innovative mathematical components. We are looking to grow the part of the team that focuses on architecting and designing numerical hardware and includes formal verification. Working in the prestigious PowerVR Graphics division, you will contribute to the development of our XE series of GPUs and others. With breadth and depth, this role offers a unique view of the company’s IP and the opportunity to become a subject specialist.

You will:

  • Work within a small friendly team of world-class design and verification experts.
  • Understand, crystallise, and extract the requirements for arithmetic hardware blocks with engineers throughout Imagination.
  • Design and evaluate a variety of hardware architectures for implementing arithmetic-intensive blocks.
  • Perform formal verification on the resultant design using industry-leading tools.
  • Root cause design issues in collaboration with other engineers.
  • Produce patentable work in a research and invention-focused environment.
  • Educate other members of the company on Datapath design.

You'll have:

  • A degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Electronic Engineering.
  • Knowledge of digital hardware and digital design.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical information concisely and unambiguously both verbally and in writing.
  • Tenacity and the ability to work and communicate with others to get things done.
  • Attention to detail, a critical mind with the ability to think both abstractly and concretely.
  • Familiarity with Unix-based systems and at least one HDL.


You might also have:

  • Experience optimising arithmetic hardware.
  • Appreciation of low power design techniques.
  • Familiarity with scientific computing and numerical libraries.
  • Experience with computer assisted verification and writing rigorous mathematical proofs.
  • Software programming experience, especially with C, C++, Python or shell.
