The Role
As a Research Chemist, you will work as part of a team that provides air purification and atmosphere monitoring support to the Ministry of Defence, overseas navies and commercial organisations that operate in challenging enclosed environments such as submarines, ships and armoured fighting vehicles.
Day-to-day, you’ll conducting practical laboratory investigation of technologies to maintain a safe breathable atmosphere. You will undertake a variety of tasks, ensuring technical solutions to meet business and customer requirements Our work includes projects targeted at current issues within atmosphere monitoring and control, and novel research to expand future capabilities in the field.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
This role is 37 hours per week based at our Haslar site in Gosport.
Our facilities at the Haslar Marine Technology Park are state-of-the-art, including our ocean basin rotating arm, and marine towing tank, offering an unparalleled environment for testing and refining designs. Our marine technology offers our global customers a service to deliver constrained hydrodynamic model tests of surface ships, submarines, offshore structures, and renewable energy devices.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Identification of technology with potential for use in sealed environments
- Assisting in the design and build of test apparatus
- Conducting laboratory assessments
- Contributing to customer presentations and reports
- Occasional off site working to provide service support to atmosphere monitoring equipment on submarines or undertake gas concentration measurements during equipment trials
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment
- It would be advantageous to have experience in any of the following disciplines:
- Gas chromatography
- Mass spectrometry
- Instrument analysis
- Handling of gases
- Contaminant removal
- You will need to have obtained a good degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related subject, with demonstrable practical laboratory experience.
