Research Associate (TMDs) x 3 (Fixed Term)

Cambridge Service Alliance

Date: 1 day ago
City: Cambridge
Contract type: Full time
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility of being extended to 2 more years.

Several Research Associate positions are available immediately to work on electronic devices based on two-dimensional semiconductors, funded by various grants. The projects will involve synthesis, characterisation and fabrication of devices (electronic and electrochemical) based on two-dimensional semiconductors such as MoS2 and other transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs).

Applicants should have experience in device fabrication and measurements. We encourage candidates with broad range of experience in CVD growth and mechanical transfer of 2D TMDs and their heterostructures. We will also consider candidates who have experience in making good metal/semiconductor and dielectric/semiconductor interfaces for electronic devices. Candidates with experience in making devices such as complementary field effect transistors (CFETs), tunnel FETs, ferroelectric FETs, magnetic tunnelling junctions, or photovoltaic devices are encouraged to apply. The candidate will also be expected to have competence in clean room and device fabrication using lithographic techniques. In addition, expertise in some of the following characterisation techniques is desirable: Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy, Piezoresponse Force Microscopy, low-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy, device measurements, C-V measurements, and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute intellectually to the direction of the research on low-power electronics within the project. They will be expected to draft scientific manuscripts and to contribute to the day-to-day supervision of Master's or PhD students.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD, or be near completion of a PhD, in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related area. They will be committed to collaborative and interdisciplinary research and be able to demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

The successful candidate will work in the 2D Materials and Devices Group under the supervision of Professor Manish Chhowalla and Dr Yan Wang. The 2DMD group members hail from ten different countries and half identify as women. We strongly encourage and warmly welcome applications from women, black, and minority ethnic candidates.
