Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated individual to work with our team as a radiographic assistant practitioner undertaking supervised imaging within a defined scope of practice whilst undertaking the Diagnostic Radiography Degree Apprenticeship. Start date of the apprenticeship will be confirmed once the apprentice has a confirmed place on the course.

Completion of the apprenticeship degree will qualify you for State registration as a Radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council.

About The Team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are a large friendly team who enjoy working together to provide excellent patient. You will spend your time working with the team to look after our patients whilst also developing the necessary skills to meet the practical and academic requirements of the radiography apprenticeship degree. You will spend time with us at UHS as well as block release at University of Exeter.

As a radiographic assistant practitioner, working within a defined scope of practice under supervision, you will undertake general radiography and fluoroscopy examinations following departmental protocols to ensure high departmental standards are met. There is a requirement to work across the 24/7 period.

As an apprentice, you will assist the radiographers and radiologists as they undertake imaging procedures and provide care for the patients whilst in the department. You will also be required to undertake admin tasks such as booking patients in using the Radiology Information System as well as using the electronic request and portering system, all of which require good IT skills.

Under the supervision of our Registered Radiographers and supported by the University apprenticeship provider, you will learn to undertake imaging procedures yourself. Academic block release, online tutorials and practical supervision will enable you to gain the skills required to successfully complete your degree and register as a radiographer.

You must also be able to successfully meet the entry requirements required by the University apprenticeship provider.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

• G.C.S.E or equivalent qualifications in English and Mathematics
• A level – including science subject (BBC) B in Science
• Or DMM- BTEC (extended diploma) (science/healthcare related subject).
• Or 12 level 3 credits at merit or above- access to science.
• Or 60 credits at 60% or above in a relevant foundation degree Relevant Foundation degree
• Experience of working in a busy customer care environment
• Evidence of an understanding of the diagnostic radiographer role
• Evidence of knowledge of the RAP role within Planar imaging
• Evidence of personal and professional development
• To be able to cope with distressed patients and carers, and distressing circumstances e.g. non accidental injury, major trauma, and cancer
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of colleagues and patients.
• Flexible approach to their work (ability to work flexible hours participating in rosters to deliver the 24/7 service)
