Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the successful and vibrant Women’s services at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, as a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This post is to provide maternity leave cover within the Women and Newborn Care Group at the Princess Anne Hospital.
Working at the Princess Anne Hospital is interesting and fulfilling because of the variety of work and the collaborative environment. The hospitals provide a near complete range of care and at all levels of complexity. These include community midwifery care, secondary care to the local population in both obstetrics and gynaecology, and tertiary services for the Wessex region in obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatology. Tertiary neonatal services include neonatal surgery and cardiology.

You will be expected to lead and deliver clinical excellence within women services and should demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting the best culture for inspiring vision and values; promoting goals and improvements; demonstrating support and compassion; learning and innovation; effective cross-discipline team working and collective leadership.
What We’re Looking For
A willingness to learn and work within a constantly changing environment is necessary together with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
With significant experience in leading service change and the training of medical and non-medical staff is also desirable.
Additional Information
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications And Training
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- MRCOG
- ATSM or equivalent in Advanced Labour Ward Practice
- ATSM or equivalent demonstrating special interest in obstetrics and gynaecology
- Accredited GMC educational supervisor
- Further higher degree
- Evidence of research and publications
- Entry on the Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the advisory appointments committee
Essential criteria
- Ability to manage a busy high risk labour ward and obstetric and gynaecology emergencies independently
- Previous experience of on call O&G as a senior resident in a high risk maternity unit within the NHS
- Experience in delivering formal undergraduate and/or postgraduate education
Essential criteria
- Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement
- Good presentation and communication skills
- Ability to travel between sites and for on-call
- Leadership Qualities; enthusiastic, flexible, able to adapt to change and to lead service developments
- Evidence of previous relevant experience to make significant developments and contributions to established services with demonstrable output
