Salary: £40,000 - £42,000 dependent on skills and experience
Until the end of July 2025 - Fixed Term Contract/ Secondment
Hybrid working (office based in Birmingham) – Currently 1 – 2 days in the office per Month after training

Your role:
We are recruiting for a Protection Underwriter to assess Income Protection plans for Wesleyan's niche Medical and Dental market.
You will be joining a small but experienced technical team of six dedicated professionals. With over 40 years of collective experience working together in a team, there is a wealth of knowledge and support.
This is a great opportunity to develop your underwriting skills within a specialised sector, ensuring every day is both challenging and fulfilling. This role could be ideal for someone with life and critical insurance experience looking to develop their underwriting knowledge within Income Protection
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide a market leading service to Wesleyan’s customers by underwriting new and increase protection applications, carrying out work in a productive, accurate and professional manner.
- Ensure underwriting exclusions and ratings applied are in accordance with Wesleyan’s underwriting philosophy, commercial risk and regulatory requirements.
- Develop effective professional relationships within the Protection area and other key stakeholders including Financial Consultants
- Taking ownership of customer underwriting enquiries and pre-sales. Liaising with customers directly in resolving any technical queries relating to the underwriting of the product.
- Ensure that underwriting procedures and philosophy remain up to date with any process, philosophy or regulatory changes
We’re looking for:
- Previous Income Protection, Life or Critical Illness underwriting experience
- A high degree of flexibility, adapting to new challenges
- Ability to communicate with all internal and external customers effectively
- Excellent attention to detail
