The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity within our Electronic Warfare Line of Business for a Proposal Writer.

You will be responsible for developing and writing compelling proposals that address customer Hot Buttons and clearly articulate Win Themes to secure new business from a diverse customer base. You will be experienced in leading storyboarding sessions, interviewing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), participating in document reviews, to produce winning proposals.

This role is based at our Luton site with occasional UK travel to other Leonardo sites. We operate a custom working model and offer flexible working to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.

What you’ll do as a Proposal Writer

• Write compelling tender responses and proposals, drawing on the skills and experience of capture team members and SMEs
• Re-write / edit proposal content from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from Campaign Managers (Sales), Capability, Integrated Project Teams (ICT), Engineering, Commercial, Procurement, and Delivery
• Create proposal and content templates to improve the quality of submissions
• Ensure win themes are articulated to meet and exceed customer requirements
• Conduct interviews with SMEs to generate compelling proposal content
• Deliver completed written proposal responses to the agreed bid plan deadlines
• Lead answer planning and storyboard sessions with bid team members
• Work with Bid Managers to run effective Red Team reviews
• Proactively develop and manage a network of SMEs
• Assist Bid Managers in developing effective proposal structures
• Identify and re-work existing pre-written proposal content
• Coach Campaign Managers (Sales), Bid Managers, and other SMEs in proposal writing best practice.
• Work with the EW Head of Bids and Proposals in creating an effective proposal content library / knowledge base
• Manage the proposal content library / knowledge base you helped create
  
  

What we need from you

• Experience producing winning proposals
• Excellent written and verbal communication with a strong academic background (degree level) in English Language, journalism, communications, or other related fields is desirable
• A background in a relevant discipline (English language, communications, creative writing, journalism, media, etc.)
• Ability to learn technical and engineering concepts, and make them easy to understand for readers by using simple and impactful language
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office and other word processing software
• APMP Foundation (Practitioner or Professional level desirable)
• Excellent planning, organisation, and time management skills (to achieve bid milestones)
• Strong attention to detail and thorough proof-reading skills
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams that may be geographically dispersed
• Interpersonal skills to develop close business relationships with SMEs
• Knowledge of proposal automation software is desirable
