Project Engineer - Lichfield - Up to £30/hr LTD - Outside IR35 - Long term contract role

Our client is a UK-based supplier of advanced propulsion components for defence platforms, supporting key projects with mission-critical technology.

We are seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to support the successful planning, coordination, and execution of engineering and manufacturing projects. This is a delivery-focused role, ideal for a technically proficient engineer with solid project coordination experience, particularly in the defence, aerospace, or high-integrity manufacturing sectors.

You will act as the central interface between internal engineering teams, buyers, suppliers, and customers-ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate and manage day-to-day activities across the supply chain to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Work closely with buyers and procurement teams to monitor and support supplier performance.
  • Maintain and update project timelines using Gantt charts and other planning tools.
  • Liaise with customers on project status, reviews, and progress updates.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality procedures and customer contractual requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation plans, and track actions to resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement).
  • Support configuration control and documentation processes.

Ideal Candidate Profile:


  • HND or equivalent in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering (Degree desirable but not essential).
  • Demonstrable experience as a Project Engineer or Project Coordinator in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Previous exposure to defence, military, aerospace, or automotive sectors preferred.
  • Working knowledge of supply chain processes and working with external suppliers.
  • Experience using Gantt charts and project planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel).
  • Understanding of MoD/defence industry expectations around procurement, traceability, and delivery.
  • Strong communication skills with a professional and confident manner.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and willing to travel occasionally to customer or supplier sites.
  • Experience in delivering projects with cost, time, and quality constraints.
