The team
Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It’s a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit based in the heart of Westminster. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.
The role
At ITV News Central, we tell stories of the wide range of people who make up our community across the East and West Midlands. Our newsroom is also reflective of the diversity of the region. We are looking for a Production Specialist to join our award winning team who help to technically produce these live news programmes and bulletins.
As a Production Specialist, you will work as part of a multi-skilled team providing technical, craft, operational and administrative skills across all areas of the news service, primarily based at our newsroom and studio in Birmingham.
To be eligible for this role, candidates will need to be multiskilled and clearly demonstrate skills for live studio operations. Proven skills in areas that include live studio operations, gallery timing, vision, sound, directing bulletins, Traffic, production administration & scheduling is essential.
You must be willing, and have the aptitude, to develop your skills further and to move between different duties on a daily basis as the needs of a busy and vibrant news operation requires. You’ll also be happy to share your own skills with others. The rostered hours will include weekend working, late shifts as well as early morning shifts.
As a Production Specialist, you will be a highly motivated individual as well as friendly and approachable. You will be committed to working as part of a successful team, sharing the responsibility for supporting news production. Above all you will be an excellent communicator who is quick thinking and calm under pressure with strong and decisive decision-making skills.

Please note, the rostered hours for this role will include weekend working , late shifts as well as early morning shifts and Bank Holidays. The working pattern will incorporate late shifts (typically 00:00 finish) as well as early morning (typically 05:00 start). You are expected to provide your own means of transportation to and from your main workplace.

- Relevant experience to the role and skills in at least two of the following areas: Editing, sound, directing, programme timing, vision, or Traffic
- The ability to multi-skill under pressure

- A team player who demonstrates drive and resilience
- Brings a positive attitude to their work
- Confident communicator
- Excellent attention to detail
