RPS, a Tetra Tech company is looking for a Principal Fire Safety Engineer. The team are based at either the Warrington or West Cumbria office, however this role can be based at one of our various locations across the UK or home-based.

About The Team

The fire safety team are a thriving part of our overall RPS Risk team of 50 staff, operating with clients on projects throughout the UK. The fire team support major clients in the development of complex and bespoke fire engineering strategies.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead and manage fire engineering projects from concept through to delivery.
  • Manage and guide the design of high hazard buildings and the team of fire engineers.
  • Conduct and deliver fire engineering assessments, fire safety strategies and high-hazard scenario analysis and workshops.
  • Evaluate prevention and protective measures required to limit the probability and consequence of fire.
  • Understand the design, installation, maintenance requirements for fire detection, suppression and control philosophies.
  • Perform fire modelling and interpret the results.
  • Provide proposals and cost estimates for new client wins.
  • Engage with stakeholders and regulators.
  • Occasional travel to client sites throughout the UK and sometimes overseas.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Proven track record in successful technical delivery of medium or large-scale fire engineering projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of UK regulations and standards (e.g. Approved Document B, BS 9999, BS 9991, PD 7974, etc.) and other regulatory regimes.
  • Experienced in managing fire engineers within projects.
  • Confident in liaising effectively with design teams, clients, local approving authorities, contractors and other third parties.
  • Strong numeracy, report writing and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering or other Engineering discipline.
