Legal Counsel – Shape the Future of Britain’s Energy

Join Great British Energy Nuclear (GBE-N)

Looking for a greater purpose? How about making net-zero, energy security and economic growth happen. Beat that!

We need brilliant people to join us. We need you.

We are a pioneering government arm’s length body driving Britain’s energy security and net zero ambitions. We’re turning the nuclear ambition into reality. This is your opportunity to play a critical role in one of the most transformative periods for UK energy. We are embarking on a “Golden Age of Nuclear”. We’d like you to join us.

Why you matter

As Legal Counsel, you’ll be at the heart of GBE-N’s mission, providing expert legal guidance in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. You’ll work on a mix of strategic projects and day-to-day matters that underpin the success of an organisation shaping the future of sustainable clean energy.

Everyone is welcome here. We’re committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. Bring your brilliant attitude and legal skills, not necessarily nuclear experience – and we’ll help you learn the rest.

Although our head office is based in Warrington, we welcome applications from talented individuals across the UK. We embrace a highly flexible approach to working, ensuring our arrangements support the needs and wellbeing of our team.

If you need any support or adjustments during the application process, please contact us at [email protected].

What You’ll Do

Partner with the Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Director to deliver clear, pragmatic legal advice across strategic initiatives and business-as-usual activities.

Support and collaborate with front-line project teams and central functions on a wide range of legal matters, enabling balanced risk-based decision-making.

Manage legal workstreams independently or through external counsel, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.

Drive process improvements by developing standard documentation and procedures for the legal function.

What We’re Looking For

Qualified solicitor or barrister (England & Wales). This is essential.

2+ years PQE (more experienced candidates welcome). We are really interested in recruiting attitude not just PQE.

Expertise in projects, infrastructure, or complex commercial transactions would be useful.

Knowledge of public procurement, subsidy control and public law, would be good.

Strong drafting and negotiation skills with the ability to handle diverse in-house matters.

Confident communicator, adept at influencing stakeholders and prioritising in a dynamic environment.

A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a “can-do” attitude and appetite for autonomy.

Why Join Us?

Work on projects that shape Britain’s energy future.

Make an impact that lasts for decades.

Join a collaborative, forward-thinking team.
