This role requires you to be flexible with travelling around the UK as regular site visits are required.

Joining us as a Passive Engineer


As a Passive Engineer you will investigate, instigate, develop and communicate CityFibre passive engineering improvements and innovations so that its application delivers against our business objectives and strategic intent.

This is some of what you can expect to be doing:


  • Support the operation and expansion of the Passive Network across different teams including MDU, Customer Installations, Field Network Operations including ERS and in network acquisition integration
  • Develop Service and Component Supplier relationships in alignment with Passive Engineering roadmap
  • Assist the wider team in the technical and commercial evaluation of innovations to drive CPP reduction
  • Provide the guardianship of network quality and standards of the Passive Network
  • Cost modelling of engineering initiatives taking a 360-degree view of all aspects in the project lifecycle needed to successfully deliver produce


What you’ll bring to the role


Acting within a first-class engineering environment defining how to build and operate the UKs finest digital infrastructure to be “Better by Design” so that CityFibre can achieve its goal of becoming the network of choice as a wholesale provider of fibre connectivity services


You’ll also have:


  • Expertise in fibre connectivity solutions, including joint closures, cabinets and fibre testing
  • Effective communication of engineering changes through verbal and technical document writing skills
  • Proficiency in managing Optical Distribution Frames ODF, Emergency Restoration Systems ERS, and Outside Plant OSP material technology.
  • Develop installation and build method specifications as well as best practices
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ITU-T G.657 and compliance with relevant legislation
  • Implement operational learning and solutions for engineering interventions
  • Skilled in Intelligent Optical Link Mapping OLM and fibre testing methodologies
  • Evaluate innovations for CPP reduction and cost modelling
