We have an exciting opportunity to join our Operations team as ‘Operational Trainer’ at our Nicholas & Harris site, part of ‘Finsbury Food Group’. Nicholas & Harris has over 180 years of heritage in craft baking methods. If you like artisanal and speciality breads, or have special dietary or nutritional preferences, our Salisbury bakery has you covered!

The Operational Trainer will be responsible for the day-to-day training of our operational team members, giving clear and concise instruction, while demonstrating adaptability towards different learning styles. Living by the Finsbury Food Group values of Teamwork, Ownership, Communication, Honesty and Respect, you’ll work as part of the wider Nicholas & Harris team to ensure we remain compliant and all necessary training is carried out and recorded.

This is what you’ll actually do!

As Operational Trainer, you will play a key role in the development and performance of our production teams, by delivering engaging and effective training across all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will ensure that our colleagues are competent, confident and compliant in their roles, helping to maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

From onboarding new recruits and signing off competencies, to delivering ongoing training, you’ll be responsible for planning, delivering, and recording all training activities in line with business and customer expectations. You’ll also support the development and review of training materials, working closely with our site Training Coordinator and Cluster People Development Partner, to keep our training tools relevant, clear, and impactful.

You’ll be instrumental in supporting the Training Coordinator with maintaining the Learning Management system (LMS), tracking progress, and providing key training data for internal stakeholders and external audits. Your role will also involve identifying performance gaps, supporting improvement plans, and mentoring individuals to help them achieve their best.

Ideally this is you!

  • Qualification in training is essential.
  • Previous experience in Food Manufacturing (desirable).
  • Effective communications skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise instruction.
  • Ability to adapt training approaches to different learning styles.
  • Passion for developing and mentoring others, supporting them to achieve their best.
  • Able to work and collaborate as a team, working closely with site colleagues.
  • Attention to detail, maintaining accurate training records.
  • Proactive mindset, identifying performance gaps and supporting with improvement plans.
  • Committed to compliance, ensuring training activities meet business/customer standards.
  • Ability to create and review engaging, relevant training materials.
  • Problem solving mindset, able to react and support with continuous improvement initiatives.
  • IT skills, including MS office (essential) and experience of learning management systems (desirable).
