Home-Start South Wiltshire offers support, friendship, and practical help to parents with at least one child under 5 through our network of trained volunteers who visit families in their homes.

We need your passion for supporting early years development and family support to give children the best start in life.

What are we looking for?

The Chair leads the Board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, serving its vision and mission. The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the Board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the senior staff. The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity. We are looking for the following skills Proven leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit organisation with a strong understanding of governance and strategic planning. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and bring people together. Experience of chairing meetings and events. Able to demonstrate a strong passion and commitment to the charity, its strategic objectives, and cause. This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check. Key criteria is a fundamental belief in our cause, a compassionate leadership style, good team player with proven experience and understanding of governance, strategy and oversight, underpinned by the Principles of Public Life (known as the Nolan Principles) of selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

What will you be doing?

We are urgently looking for an experienced Chair to lead our Board of Trustees. The main responsibilities include leadership and governance, strategic planning, financial oversight, fundraising and advocacy, board development, program oversight and engaging with our team. Chair role Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that it achieves its mission. Work in partnership with the Board and team to achieve our mission. Lead the Board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation. Optimise the relationship between the Board and staff and volunteers. Plan and chair the Board meetings and the AGM, with others as appropriate. Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Home-Start South Wiltshire. Developing the Board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning Ensure board and trustee performance is reviewed annually. Ensure the performance of the Senior Coordinator is reviewed annually. Addressing conflict within the Board and within the organisation.
