Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dedicated individual to join our team. Your leadership will guarantee the delivery of high quality care within our Out Patients setting. Within the principles of the Modern Matron framework, your key role will be to ensure clinical quality standards are consistently achieved, by providing inspirational and visible clinical leadership to our teams, supporting them in assuring the delivery of contemporary, high quality, safe, effective and evidenced based care.

Main duties of the job

The services in these areas are provided by dedicated, motivated multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for promoting a high standard of nursing care and multi-disciplinary working. You will be expected to adopt a team approach to problem-solving and therefore good communication and organisational skills are essential. The expectation of the matron is to be seen in the clinical areas, undertaking regular clinical rounds, talking to patients and listening to their concerns, dealing with complaints and involving patients in decision-making.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The Clinical Matron will have enhanced clinical skills and provide clinical expertise both within their own clinical environment and across the organisation as necessary to support the Organisational Strategy in the achievement of professional, operational and clinical governance objectives. This will involve being responsible for the development and implementation of service improvement and/ or policies in their area of expertise.

The post holder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the relevant setting. They will be easily identifiable to clients and users, provide strong, visible leadership and have the appropriate level of authority to provide support, advice and assistance required by patients, their families and carers. Emphasis on the areas of Patient/Client Safety, Patient Experience, User engagement and Clinical Outcomes will be essential.

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of involvement in the development of programmes of care protocols and audits
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working, demonstrating the ability to work across professional bounderies, acknowledging their unique skills and knowledge
  • Evidence of relevant leadership in meeting clinical governance objectives
  • Experience of working independently as a clinical leader
  • Evidence of skills in diplomacy, negotiation and influencing

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Significant post registration experience at band 7 in an acute setting
  • Registered as a nurse with the NMC

Desirable criteria

  • Educated to master’s degree level
  • Leadership qualification
  • Quality improvement methodology qualification

Skills

  • Computer Literacy including presentation skills and report writing
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Excellent negotiating and influencing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation and with staff, patients/service users, vistors or external organisations both verbally and in writing in the exchange of highly complex,sensitive or contentious information
