Northeast London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) provides an extensive range of integrated community and mental health services for people living in the London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering.
The community neurological nursing team consists of specialist nurses supporting those with Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and Parkinson’s disease covering Havering and Barking & Dagenham. The successful applicant will be expected to have an extensive knowledge of Neurological conditions and general understanding of how other pathologies may impact on their management
We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, experienced nurse who is a strong team player with excellent communication skills. As a small team that manages complex Neurological patients you will be expected to provide and receive clinical supervision as required. You will be expected to liaise with a wide variety of health care professionals. Patients are managed within an integrated and multidisciplinary team within primary, secondary, and social care.
As part of the interview process you will be expected to prove evidence of the following: -
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735 p.a. pro rata for part time).

- A current Registered Nurse qualification (Part 1 of NMC register)
- Cert, Diploma or First level Degree in Nursing
- Working towards or be a Non-Medical Prescriber. If you do not have this qualification the candidate must be prepared to undertake the training following a 6-month probationary period.
- Hold a clinical caseload and develop and implement a plan of care for people with Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis, at home to promote seamless care, using a patient centred approach.
- Improve, develop and maintain clinical services to people with MND, PD and MS in conjunction with existing services.
- Work collaboratively with the Community Rehabilitation Service and local care teams for the benefit of the patients.
- Develop links with voluntary agencies involved in caring for and supporting the client group
- Provide telephone advice/consultations and information to carers and other Healthcare professionals on aspects of care and support.
- Have organisational knowledge relating to the Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
- Responsible for providing accurate records or information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
- Ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring risks are added to the Trust register.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and a wide range of clinicians, managers, and support staff both internal and external to the organisation.
- Work in line with appropriate NICE Guidelines.
