- Required: Mechanic to work for our client*** We are currently seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our client’s team in the Waste Treatment plant near Knaresborough. The Mechanic will support the mechanical maintenance team and the Lead Mechanical Engineer in maintaining all aspects of mechanical plant, services, and equipment.
Location: Waste Treatment Plant near Knaresborough
Contract: 3 Months Initially, with Potential to Go Permanent
Working Hours
Week 1: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday
Week 2: 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM, Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: £16.87 per hour
Key Responsibilities For a Mechanic
- Rectify problems on mechanical assets, including conveyor belts, pumps, gearboxes, valves, and cranes.
- Perform fabrication work and general workshop duties.
- Be responsible for planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance work, ensuring the highest standards are maintained.
- Assist with and actively participate in planned outages.
- Operate workshop machinery, and handle fabrication and refurbishment tasks.
- Communicate problems and concerns promptly through line management, ensuring quick resolution.
- Assist in delivering Maintenance Team KPIs.
- Effectively use the site CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Participate in team briefings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure full compliance with appropriate Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
- Work safely and efficiently according to the site safety rules, under a safe system of work.
- Report any accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Time Served Mechanical Technical Apprenticeship
- Level 3 NVQ3/BTEC in Maintenance Engineering
- CSE/GCSE equivalent
- IOSH Managing Safely (Desirable)
Proven knowledge and experience working on mechanical systems such as:
- Conveyor belts
- Valves
- Gearboxes
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Fabrication
- Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings/documents.
- Experience and knowledge of safe systems of work, including permit to work, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Ability to carry out planned preventative maintenance tasks.
- Ability to fault-find and repair mechanical assets.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience in writing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
