The Landing Gear Market specializes in the design, qualification, manufacture and repair and overhaul of landing gears and flight critical components to a customer base that extends from the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to the Operators in both the commercial and military markets.
Summary of position:
We are seeking an experienced Aerospace Subcontract Buyer with a strong engineering background to join our dynamic Materials Planning and Logistics team. This role will focus on sourcing, negotiating, and managing subcontractor relationships for complex aerospace projects, ensuring that all components, and services meet technical specifications, quality standards, and budget requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of procurement expertise and engineering knowledge to effectively collaborate with engineering teams and suppliers to meet project timelines and technical requirements.

No prior experience necessary; Interest in supplier development and, lean manufacturing. Strong understanding of technical drawings and manufacturing principles is desirable.

Main responsibilities:
- Subcontract Sourcing & Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and select qualified subcontractors and suppliers to meet project requirements for aerospace landing gear products and services.
- Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams to understand technical specifications, drawings, and requirements to ensure subcontracted materials and services align with design and manufacturing needs.
- Contract Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with subcontractors, ensuring the best value and compliance with aerospace standards and regulations.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, overseeing performance and ensuring adherence to contractual obligations, quality, and delivery timelines.
- Cost Management & Budgeting: Monitor and control costs associated with subcontracted materials and services, ensuring compliance with project budgets and cost control measures.
- Risk Management: Assess potential risks in the supply chain, including quality issues, lead times, and supplier stability, and take proactive steps to mitigate risks.
- Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities are well-documented, compliant with industry regulations, and aligned with company policies and procedures.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process improvements within the procurement function, identifying opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency, and innovation in subcontracting practices.
No prior experience necessary; Interest in supplier development and, lean manufacturing. Strong understanding of technical drawings and manufacturing principles is desirable.
- Knowledge of aerospace engineering principles, design specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and certifications (e.g. AS9100 and NADCAP).
- Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a small cross-functional team environment and collaborate with engineers, quality, and suppliers.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues related to procurement, engineering, and supply chain management.
- Certification in Supply Chain Management/Procurement (e.g CIPS).
- Experience with subcontracting for Aerospace or Engineering.
- Knowledge of materials and technologies used in aerospace manufacturing.
