HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group in Hitachi Energy, which develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. It is also used to connect power systems.
We are looking for an engaging and driven person to lead the cross functional HVDC team based in the United Kingdom. You will be part of HVDC team and report to the Head of Engineering UK.
This is an office based role and preferred location is Glasgow, however consideration will be given for central Birmingham for a highly suitable candidate. Please also not we are unable to provide visa support on this position

How You’ll Make An Impact
- Lead a team of engineers within the HVDC engineering team who are based out of 2 locations (Glasgow and Birmingham).
- Provide direction to the teams with technology, focus on safety, on-time delivery, quality, and margin improvement.
- Support the project deliverables ensuring the KPIs
- Collaborate with the local and global management to align on the strategic and operational plans.
- Responsible for process adherence and quality assurance.
- Be a positive role model for your team and beyond by living Hitachi Energy’s Leadership Pillars as a leader which means living our vision, working together, delivering promises, and developing people.
- Drive, together with your team, continuous improvements, find relevant KPIs, identify efficiency gains and working methods within teams to ensure methodical and predictable progress and progress reporting.
- Adapting and implementing HVDC strategic initiatives to fit your team, in order to achieve business alignment.
- Plan team and area composition together with the global managers
- Responsible for individual development and competences development in order to meet business needs, in alignment with internal stakeholders and customers.
- In order to ensure quality output, you will take ownership of process adherence within the team
- Responsibility for reporting progress, team activities and potential risks.
- You hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree within the relevant technical area.
- You have a strong interest and preferably documented experience in management techniques, developing teams and individuals in order to unlock their potential or a documented background in project management, preferably within BIM, Plants and Civil.
- As a person you have a passion for people and technology, you are strong in decision making and have the right inner drive and self-management skills to take on full responsibility for your scope and deliver on time in a dynamic environment.
- You are collaborative and willing to work in the office environment.
- You are communicative, engaged and can handle the busy digital landscape of today, comfortable utilizing Teams and O365 suit to efficiently communicate with your team and beyond.
- You have an open, curious, and problem-solving mindset which means you enjoy improving, or replacing, existing processes, work methods and tools if you deem them needed.
- You understand deadlines, budgetary constraints and have a strong sense of responsibility and you are comfortable with making decisions for your team if needed.
