As a Lawyer at SYMCA, you’ll provide high-quality, accessible legal advice across a range of practice areas, with a particular focus on economic regeneration and funding programmes. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation and with external partners to support the planning, development, and delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects.

You will provide support to the Programme Management and Growth and Development Teams in the fields of grant agreements and subsidy control contributing to exciting projects across South Yorkshire delivering economic regeneration

You’ll be part of a collaborative legal team that values innovation, integrity, and impact—helping to ensure that decisions are lawful, risks are managed, and opportunities are maximised.

Key Responsibilities Include

Deliver timely and effective legal advice in areas such as subsidy control, grant agreements, procurement, commercial law, governance, land law, and employment law.

Draft and negotiate complex legal documentation and contractual arrangements.

Support the legal aspects of funding programmes and regeneration initiatives.

Build strong working relationships with internal clients, local authorities, government departments, and commercial partners.

Support the Monitoring Officer and Senior Lawyers on complex legal matters and decision-making processes.

Manage and communicate externally commissioned legal advice effectively.

Contribute to the development of legal practices and procedures within the team.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

We’re looking for a proactive and collaborative legal professional who is excited by the opportunity to support economic growth and regeneration in South Yorkshire. You’ll be someone who combines strong technical legal skills with a practical, solution-focused approach and a commitment to public service.

You’ll Also Bring

A current practising qualification as a solicitor, barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive.

Experience in one or more relevant legal specialisms (e.g. subsidy control, procurement, commercial law, governance, regeneration).

Strong legal drafting, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.

The ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and confidently.

A commercial mindset and the ability to apply legal knowledge in a practical, value-driven way.

A commitment to continuous professional development and collaborative working.
