Java Developer

Join a leading global technology company helping modernise the UK’s defence logistics and supply chain. As a Java Developer, you’ll contribute to one of the UK’s most complex and impactful transformation programmes — designing, building, and integrating software solutions that support vital operations around the world.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain scalable software solutions using Java and related frameworks.
  • Participate in all stages of the SDLC — from analysis and architecture through to deployment and testing.
  • Build integrations with multiple enterprise systems across a modern cloud environment.
  • Conduct peer reviews, ensure adherence to coding standards, and maintain technical documentation.
  • Work within Agile teams, collaborating with engineers, analysts, and project leads to deliver high-quality code.
  • Apply DevOps and CI/CD practices using tools like Jenkins, Git, and Packer.
  • Support application troubleshooting, testing, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Strong hands-on coding skills in Java, plus exposure to other languages such as Python, Perl, or JavaScript.
  • Experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot, React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, and integration technologies (e.g. IBM WebSphere MQ, XSLT).
  • Familiarity with build management, configuration, and release management best practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

  • Experience working with UNIX/Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of J2EE and Node.js.
  • Interest in DevOps, automation, and secure software design principles.

Why Join

  • Contribute to a mission-driven national programme improving UK defence operations.
  • Career development through technical academies, training, and rotation opportunities.
  • Inclusive, collaborative culture focused on flexibility and continuous learning.
  • Excellent benefits including:
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Contributory Pension Scheme
  • 33 Days Annual Leave (including public holidays)
  • Flexible working options and access to lifestyle benefits (gym, cycle-to-work, health schemes).

This role offers a rare opportunity to apply your technical expertise to real-world impact — developing software that keeps critical systems running safely and efficiently.
