Job Description

We have two fantastic opportunities within our Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Service for Construction Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisors.

These full-time roles in the Capital/Construction team will primarily undertake audits and inspections of our construction delivery partners to ensure good standards are maintained. We undertake a programme of audits and inspections to ensure these standards are effectively implemented.

The successful candidates will ideally be based in the East or Southeast of England.

The role requires travel to construction sites to undertake audits and will be a mix of office / home based and construction site-based health, safety, and wellbeing assurance activities.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Completing construction site audits and inspections, including reporting and follow up
  • Providing technical advice on topics associated with design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Supporting incident investigations and associated learning
  • Ensuring relevant standards, guidance and training remain up to date
  • Creating training and awareness tools and deliver these to the business
  • Influencing our delivery partners to continuously improve their performance

The team

The role sits within the Construction Team which is part of the national Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Team (HSW). Working closely with colleagues/delivery partners to define and develop standards and provide technical advice. We provide technical support for investigations, and lessons learned are shared and embedded. We collaborate with our supply chain and wider construction industry to develop and share best practice.

Experience/skills Required

  • Experience of construction and maintenance projects
  • Qualified to at least NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction Certificate (UK) level or similar.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution such as IOSH or IIRSM, (ideally Chartered or working towards).


Your skills and abilities in building rapport with your customers and peers, through clear and persuasive communication (both oral and written) is a vital attribute. You will be comfortable reviewing and improving ways of working to enable a consistent understanding and application of H&S legislation and best practice in design, planning and construction delivery.

The role offers a flexible hybrid of home working and travel to conduct site audits, and for other business purposes. such as attending meetings and working at office locations, along with opportunities to further professional development.
