This is a fixed term position of 6 months.

The shift pattern for this position is Mon Thurs 8-4, Fri 8-3.30.

The post holder will be part of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s Prison Health Care Health Improvement Team and will be responsible for the delivery and ongoing development of Alcohol and Drug Harm Reduction service currently being delivered in the prisons in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The Post Holder Will

  • Deliver a range of health related trainings to people living in prison through structured sessions on a one to one or group basis.
  • Be required to support the promotion of the full suite of programmes delivered by the Prison Health Improvement Team which include Quit Your Way cessation services and Mouth Matters Oral Health Improvement service.
  • Be required to support the delivery of any other relevant topics identified by service management.

You will be expected to operate as part of an extensive multi-disciplinary team, in the role of the Health Improvement Assistant Practitioner to deliver a series of Harm Reduction messages covering Blood Borne Virus, Alcohol and Drugs As part of this we would expect you to establish and maintain strong and effective partnerships with key partner organisations (e.g. ADRS, SDF, voluntary sector and recovery communities) and other Health Improvement staff who can influence and deliver the Health Improvement and Inequalities work streams. The post will be primarily based within HMP Barlinnie but there will be a requirement to work across all 4 prison sites.

Requirements

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Office Packages.
  • Good command of verbal and written English.

The post is 37 hours with a shift pattern between Monday - Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm. The post holder may be required to work out with these times to meet the exigencies of the service. This post is fixed term for 6 months initially.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
