We're seeking an accomplished Health & Safety (H&S) Manager to oversee our Manufacturing business in the West Midlands. This role presents a compelling opportunity for a seasoned H&S professional to spearhead and cultivate a robust Health and Safety Culture across our expansive manufacturing site, which hosts diverse operations.

Our ideal candidate will hold an NVQ 6 or Diploma Level Health & Safety qualification, complemented by hands–on experience in managing the relevant management standards 14001 & 45001. Additionally, CMIOSH status or progression towards it would be advantageous.

As a dynamic and passionate individual, you'll be joining a formidable management team that offers guidance and support, empowering you to shape and advance health and safety standards while assuming full ownership of safety protocols.

In this pivotal role, you'll undertake a variety of hands–on operational responsibilities, serving as the steward of H&S matters. This includes overseeing ISO 45001 compliance, chairing monthly H&S meetings, conducting inductions and toolbox talks, as well as reviewing risk assessments, SSOW, and SOPs. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in alignment with legal requirements and industry best practices, ensuring regular review and updates.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, hazard identification, and implement effective control measures to mitigate risks.
  • Perform regular site inspections and audits to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, promptly identifying and addressing any areas of non–compliance.
  • Provide comprehensive training to employees on health and safety policies, covering areas such as fire safety, first aid, and manual handling.
  • Investigate and report on accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending preventive actions.
  • Foster strong relationships with external contractors and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with all relevant reports, licenses, and permits.
  • Develop and maintain safety KPI metrics to drive performance enhancement.
  • Remain abreast of legislative updates, providing informed advice to employees and management.
  • Actively promote a world–class manufacturing ethos throughout the Partnership.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation control as per HSE system requirements.
  • Develop, manage, and implement the coordination and provision of CDM 2015 regulations for the business.
  • Undertake Principal Designer duties in compliance with CDM 2015 regulations on all construction–related projects. Alternatively, provide advice and assistance to internal teams on all CDM matters related to design, construction processes, and maintenance, ensuring full legal compliance.
  • Utilise first–hand experience and understanding of CDM regulations and processes to guide decision–making and ensure adherence to legal requirements.
  • Liaise with customers' Health and Safety advisors when necessary, confidently representing our organisation during interviews or site visits, whether conducted remotely or in person.

Person Specification & Key Attributes

  • Engaging and effective communicator, capable of interfacing across all levels of the Partnership.
  • A proactive operational leader, who is visible and hands–on on the Manufacturing floor and able to foster a safety–centric culture.
  • Confident, assertive, and adept at providing constructive feedback.
  • NEBOSH Certificate Level 6 H&S qualification as a minimum requirement, with manufacturing experience being essential.
  • ISO 45001 Lead auditor certification.
  • Desirable – CITB Site Safety plus course completion.
  • Membership of a professional body, such as the Association for Project Safety (APS), would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in the construction industry would also be beneficial.
  • 3–5+ years' proven experience in a similar role, particularly within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster relationships at all levels.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Action–oriented, resourceful, and adept at aligning plans with business imperatives.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations, with a practical understanding of their application.
  • Proficient in analytical and problem–solving techniques.
  • Previous experience in delivering safety training and conducting audits.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and cross–disciplinary processes.
