The Head of Bids role reports to the Group Sales Director, features 4x direct reports (2 Bid Managers, 1 Content Manager & 1 Bid Coordinator) and will work in partnership with the various input (clinical/operational/commercial/marketing) and output (sales/client management) stakeholders to create organized bidding processes and outstanding bid submissions.

This role will provide ownership over the Bid Team, systemising and organising our working to ensure that we’re robust, even in the face of multiple, simultaneous deadlines. It’s a fast-paced role for those who enjoy the buzz of a sales environment and who have a keen eye for detail, a flare for design and a strong commercial instinct.


Main Objectives

  • Represent the Medigold Health bid function (specialising in large corporate and mid-market tendering), defining & owning the rules, tools and processes behind each bid.
  • Developing a deep understanding of the available content, subject matter experts and our corporate credentials to help shape bid strategy and identify gaps early in a bid project.
  • Line manage and coach our existing Bid Team to help the individuals in these roles thrive. This team is fully resourced to enable you to further develop our high-performance culture and high-frequency output.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for the efficient working, workload balancing and performance of the Bid Team.
  • Lead projects within the Bid Team to help progress the operating efficiency and use of innovative technologies or methods.
  • Represent the Bid Team perspective on cross-business matters, educating colleagues on your profession.
  • You’ll be taking bid leadership in some instances, working as part of a collective in others, and for smaller bids, giving resources, structure and guidance to the Bid Managers, Bid Co-ordinator and other colleagues on how to work independently.
  • Own and define the market search activities of Medigold Health, using the available tools i.e. Contracts Advance tracker, internal referrals and recycling historic tender information to produce a pipeline of forthcoming potential bids for exploration/qualifications.
  • Maintain & improve our ecosystem of content deploying our dedicated Content Writer in conjunction with our many subject matter experts and marketing & content team, ensuring that content is produced, used, refined, updated, recycled and audited in a systematic way.
  • Become expert in the use of our SharePoint library to manage and disseminate said content.
  • Adopt a consultant-style towards each bid, assisting and coaching our sales & client management team members to lead on their bid submissions, but ensuring that they have the necessary tools, guidance and project-support to guarantee a high quality submission. The expectation is that Salespeople and Relationship Managers make significant contribution (both written and conceptual) towards bids they own.
  • Deliver basic training sessions to our client-facing teams to develop their skills encourage their independence in bid production/management.
  • Advise the Group Sales Director on content, process & skill improvements and additional resources which will help us scale-up, further improve our success rates and overall quality.

Requirements for this role

  • APMP Foundation/Practitioner, or similarly useful qualifications i.e. Shipley method or Prince2 training are highly desirable
  • Confident, articulate and organised
  • Able to absorb, process, distil and relay large quantities of information
  • Able to be both detail-focussed or strategically minded when the task requires
  • Strong understanding of the typical process, formalities and informalities of public/private sector bidding
  • You will need to have excellent writing ability and command of the English language and be able to draft/refine copy as adeptly as you’d expect from others in your team
  • Good copywriting competence – able to quickly and efficiently condense information and be imaginative with its presentation
  • You will need to be confident in taking the lead on bid strategies – coordinating people, managing upwards and setting & enforcing deadlines for others
  • A positive and tenacious attitude
  • Driven by commercial incentive and able to motivate others to this effect by promoting the Bid Team commission plan to drive commitment to bids when it counts
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS office (Word, PPT)
  • Intermediate skills in creative tools (Adobe CS, MS Illustrator, Visio etc.) an advantage
  • This is a high performing B2B sales environment, meaning we work to deadlines, think quickly and always act professionally

Interview Process

Interviews will take place via Microsoft Teams, and we anticipate a two-stage interview process. During the interviews, we’ll explore areas such as people management, commercial awareness, and your relevant experience for the role.
