Arup
Date: 4 weeks ago
City: Birmingham
Contract type: Full time
The Opportunity
This opportunity is within the Roads, Civil and Aviation Team. This role will include a significant portion of time working on aviation projects; however, you will work on cross sector projects such as Highways, Active Travel, Pavement, Ports, Energy and Water as part of building a diverse and multifaceted skillset.
Our Civil Engineers can find themselves working in diverse roles from airfield infrastructure and other major Infrastructure projects to smaller local site developments. An interest in heavy duty pavements would be desirable. Collaboration, and effective communication is fundamental to success as our Civil Engineering teams are often at the core of these projects acting as integrators or facilitators, working closely with many internal specialists and external bodies from clients and contractors to statutory approval organisations.
This opportunity requires candidates who ideally possess a breadth and range of skills to adapt to the diversity of work within the team. These skills require a good general Civil Engineering background and an ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to deliver projects of a breadth of size and complexity. We are looking for candidates with an appetite to develop their engineering, digital and management abilities whilst working on multi-disciplinary projects from feasibility stage through to construction.
The role requires working with a diverse range of Arup colleagues in specialisms such as airfield geometry, airfield pavement, water and drainage, sustainability and environmental planning; working with collaborators such as contractors, environmental specialists and planners; meeting with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders – including site visits; specifying and interrogating survey information for use in solution development; developing and appraising options, preliminary and detailed design. Our project portfolio is global and there will be opportunities to travel at times.
I ndividuals will need to understand and use varied design software, such as AutoCAD/Civil3d, Bentley Microstation/OpenRoads Designer, with an ability to review and interpret standards, undertake assessment and analysis. Good communication skills in all areas and an ability to collaborate within a project team, the wider RCA Team, specialists and directly with clients is essential.
From your first day, you'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and guided towards gaining professional accreditation.
You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to be supported as you progress and broaden your understanding.
