FIRE PROTECTION TECHNICAL MANAGER – OAK FIRE PROTECTION

UXBRIDGE / ROMFORD

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a Fire Protection Technical Manager to join the team at Galliford Try within our Oak Fire Protection Business.

Ideally, you will based in or around the Uxbridge or Romford area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of passive fire protection (PFP) systems, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations, and leading technical teams in the product proposal, installation, and maintenance of PFP solutions. Your expertise in fire protection materials, systems, and safety standards will be critical to the effective management and execution of passive fire protection strategies.

Leadership & Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of estimators, designers, and technicians specialized in passive fire protection systems.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of passive fire protection projects from conception to completion.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external contractors, and clients to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and staff, ensuring continuous professional development.

Technical Expertise:

  • Ensure the design and implementation of fire-resistant barriers, firestopping systems, fireproof coatings, and compartmentalization solutions meet local, national, and international fire safety standards.
  • Review and approve technical specifications, drawings, and installation methods for passive fire protection systems.
  • Stay up to date with the latest fire safety technologies, materials, and regulatory changes to maintain the highest level of knowledge and expertise in the field.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments, identify potential passive fire protection requirements, and recommend suitable solutions.

Project Management:

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets for passive fire protection initiatives.
  • Monitor the progress of ongoing projects, ensuring that milestones are met on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Perform quality control and risk management assessments throughout the lifecycle of each project.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and standards, providing recommendations and solutions to address any deficiencies.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of local, regional, and international fire protection standards, codes, and legislation (e.g., NFPA, BS, UL).
  • Ensure that all passive fire protection systems are installed, tested, and maintained in accordance with the relevant codes and regulations.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to monitor compliance and quality of installed systems, ensuring that safety standards are maintained.
  • Client Liaison & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, consultants, and other stakeholders regarding passive fire protection matters.
  • Provide expert advice and technical presentations to clients and stakeholders on fire protection solutions.
  • Ensure all client needs are understood and effectively translated into feasible and compliant solutions.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including technical reports, project files, and safety documentation.
  • Generate and review fire protection system drawings, specifications, and testing reports.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on project status, issues, and resolutions.

About You:

  • Professional certifications in fire protection engineering or fire safety management (e.g., FPA, CFPS, etc.) are highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in passive fire protection design, installation, and management.
  • In-depth knowledge of passive fire protection materials, products, and systems, including firestopping, fire doors, fireproofing, and compartmentation.
  • Proficient understanding of relevant fire safety codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., NFPA, BS, UL).
  • Strong project management skills with experience managing large-scale fire protection projects.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with teams and clients.
  • Ability to conduct fire risk assessments and provide technical recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality assurance and safety.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a senior technical management role within a fire protection or construction-related industry.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other design software for fire protection system design and layout.
