Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We’ve developed a unique power-to-fuel machine built for low-capex deployment powered entirely by utility-scale solar. Here's our entire business plan: (https://rivan.com/the-case-for-synthetic-fuels/). We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

We already have individual operating modules of our machine, we’re funded, and are now building out the team to bring the vision together and deploy at scale.

We’re looking for a Field Mechanical Engineer to help run our 1MW pilot plant in rural Wiltshire, that consists of an alkaline electrolyser, direct-air-capture system, and sabatier reactor. The day to day of this role is to maintain safe operation of the plant, assist assembly and system commissioning, maintain equipment, and analyse performance data.

This pilot plant provides a blueprint for the UK to produce vast amounts of synthetic fuels and decarbonise heavy industry. If you want to work on a high-impact technology that you’ll see the impact of in the world surrounded by smart people working with a sense of urgency and intensity – this is for you.

The role

Safe operation of plant

Safe start-up, operation & shutdown:

  • Execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) to bring the reactor & electrolyser on-line, achieve target temperature/pressure/flow, and shut down safely
  • Conduct pre-start checks (interlocks, alarms, safety valves, gas detectors)

System design iteration

  • Assist with assembly and commissioning of new hardware arriving on site
  • Suggest design iterations using operational data

Maintenance schedule

  • Diagnose routine equipment issues—plugged filters, seal leaks, pump cavitation etc.
  • Execute cleaning or inspection procedures

Process monitoring and control

  • Track key parameters—temperature profiles, pressure drops, residence time, feed ratios, pH, conversion.
  • Calculate simple performance metrics (yield, carbon balance, specific energy) for daily reports

Core skills
  • 3+ year professional experience
  • Experience running chemical plants or large-scale systems
  • Great communication and analytical skills

The things we don’t care about very much
  • Where you went to school / education
  • Where you have worked previously

Specifics
  • £40-50K Salary depending on experience
  • Share options as part of the early team
  • In-person work mostly at our pilot plant, or HQ in London
  • Flexible time-off
