This role sits within Howden Driving Data, which is part of Howden. About the role


We are seeking a skilled .NET Developer to plan, design, and develop our applications and supporting systems. In this role, you will play a key part in selecting and implementing the best technologies, tools, and development practices to ensure our solutions are robust, scalable, and innovative.

Our work sits at the intersection of telematics, data science, and behavioural insights. You will contribute to systems that incorporate complex algorithms, data capture, behaviour prediction, and driver education driving high levels of customer engagement and supporting safer driving outcomes.

As part of our team, you will help insurers design, build, and launch effective telematics programmes that influence driver behaviour and deliver measurable results quickly. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful technology that improves road safety while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in telematics.


Principle activities to be carried out by a .NET Developer include, but are not limited to:


  • Undertake the continued design and development of our software systems
  • Work closely with company stakeholders and third parties to develop requirements as part of the development process
  • Provide advice and guidance to ensure the stability and performance of our software systems and architecture
  • Actively participate in the Agile development process, including Sprint Planning and Retrospectives
  • Lead teams of developers during project work owning the responsibility for delivering on time and to budget – reporting progress to relevant stakeholders throughout
  • Maintain any documentation as may be required for our software systems
  • Assist in the creation of automated testing platform to enhance the productivity of the development team and promote stability in our systems
  • Endeavour to employ best practice development techniques (such as Test-Driven Development, Design Patterns etc.)
  • Undertake any technical training required to maintain your technical skillset (both formal courses and informal, reading technical blogs etc.)
  • Participate in code reviews and encourage peer review of your own work
  • Help to produce technical guidelines in association with colleagues to ensure best development practice.
  • Follow organisation wide information security policies, secure development practices, and contribute to the protection of information assets in accordance with the ISMS


Essential

  • Strong C# Coder – 90%+ Hands on Coding with SOLID Principles in mind.
  • Experienced with .Net 4 (and comfortable using older versions).
  • Writing REST APIs and services (doesn’t have to be in a cloud)
  • Unit Testing, TDD.
  • Microsoft SQL Server. Working with databases and writing good SQL.
  • Web development experience (any version of Angular)
  • Self-starter and problem solver.
  • Willingness to learn constantly.


Very Beneficial

  • Experience with microservice architecture
  • Experience with a wide range of web development JavaScript frameworks
  • Azure cloud (WebJobs, Azure storage)
  • DevOps (Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Automation)
  • Experience with Python, especially Machnine Learning libraries
  • Kubernetes
  • PostgreSQL
