The Project
Directs and supports in the implementation and maintenance of the design management system and adherence to meeting business, statutory, legal, and contractual requirements. Responsible for managing team/s to deliver key outcomes and contributing to the strategic development of design management systems. Provides leadership & direction through managers, delivering continuous improvements in processes through application of best practices and lessons learned and business improvement, delivering distinctive value for clients. Oversee the portfolio programme for all projects and highlight opportunities or key challenges. Engage with the Client team for a successful journey on the project.

- You will be a leading advocate of Mace's value of Safety First, and be accountable for leading and maintaining exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability and compliance standards for the design resources you manage.
- You will possess advanced technical expertise in local Health and Safety rules and regulations relevant to project portfolio.
- You will champion a diverse and inclusive working environment, and understand the importance of the wellbeing of the people you manage.
- Act as the day to day operational manager for any design managers or other design management resource deployed to projects.
- You will be responsible for leading the delivery of design management to deliver key strategic outcomes & sub-function KPIs, directly influencing strategic development.
- You will be the main point of contact for client design issues, ensuring relationships are managed and maintained.
- Contributes and inputs in to strategy development, develops plans and oversees the delivery and manages the achievement of annual business plan to time and budget.
- Assesses and defines project strategic design management delivery.
- Implements and approve consultant appointments across all work streams when contractually required.
- Builds and leads project design team (internal/external) to ensure correct resource is allocated and project deliverables are clear.
- Partners with multiple internal and external stakeholders, working in collaboration to (implement strategy/programmes/initiatives).
- Manages, influences & negotiates with key senior stakeholders.
- Act as the day to day operational manager for any design managers or other design management resource deployed to the project.
- Leads and presents management review data/ key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership.
- Supports business development and work winning activities.
- Delivers continuous improvements in processes through application of best practices and lessons learned. Drives transformational change.
- Responsible for ensuring the identification, development, and delivery of relevant training.
- Ensures management systems are followed during project lifecycle roles and responsibilities are adhered by.
- Is the focal point for design issues, ensuring client relationships are managed and maintained.
- Provides leadership and strategic direction for all design engineering activities to team/s, including external Stakeholders.
- Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition, and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
- You will implement and execute the design management system, processes and protocols to meet statutory, legal, and contractual requirements.
- You will directly influence long term development of strategy for a function or Business Unit (BU), creating a sustainable business future.
- You will commit to making a positive impact for our people, our clients, and our planet, and take ownership for holding others to account who do not uphold the Mace values.
- You will mentor, coach, and develop your project team and provide an environment to share knowledge and experience.

- Excellent knowledge & application of design management systems, design risk management and mitigation, prefabrication/ build strategies. Business planning and communication. Good knowledge of all design disciplines.
- Expertise in the formulation of design workflows, Design Scheduling and Design Deliverables.
- Expertise in delivering different typologies and complexities.
- Proactively manage internal budgets and fees, delivering agreed outcomes.
- Excellent knowledge of the construction and consultancy industries.
- Good knowledge of Building Safety legislation, Building standards, construction contracts, professional appointments and Health & Safety legislation.
- Excellent communication, organizational, presentation and writing skills.
- Maintains impartiality & takes pragmatic approach evaluating evidence.
- Ability to delegate, lead others, take initiative and make appropriate decisions.
- Strong technical knowledge to challenge projects/design/proposals.
- Leads others effectively.
- Ability to influence and persuade senior management towards a desired course of action.
- Continuous improvement and resilience through training and business improvement activities.
- Mentors and develops individuals, sharing knowledge and experience.

- Membership professional body (RIBA, MICE, CIBSE, CIOB, RICS, CIAT).
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) record of continual learning/development.
- Demonstrable building safety competence for Higher Risk Buildings.
- Expert knowledge of single design discipline.
- Developed experience analysing Risk and Opportunity through Design management processes.
- Work with industry leadership, professional bodies and affiliations (CLC, CIBSE, RICS, RIBA, ASFP etc).
- BIM literate (BIM 360. Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visilean, 4D - Synchro, P6)
- Seeks out opportunities for service differentiation and implements tested processes.
- Operation of diverse functional teams and complex stakeholder management.
- Actively enhance the team's knowledge and improve their interdependencies and communication skills.
- Interest in supporting the Mace network for Design Management functional support.
- Post graduate qualifications (MA, MSc, PGD etc) (or equivalent).
- Membership of RIBA,MICE,CIBSE,CIOB, RICS, CIAT or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
- Deep construction and consultancy expertise.
- Knowledge of Building Safety legislation, Building standards, construction contracts, professional appointments and Health & Safety legislation.
- Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.
- Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
