Are you a strategic communicator with a passion for enhancing reputation, innovation and delivering impactful campaigns that positively impact people’s lives? We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Deputy Head of Communications and Marketing to join our award-winning team, playing a crucial role in shaping and delivering the council’s communications strategy.

Supporting the Head of Communications, you will provide strategic leadership and direction for all communications and marketing activities across the council. You will act as a key advisor to the Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive on matters of reputational impact, ensuring our messages are clear, consistent, and engaging.

Your expertise will be pivotal in advising the corporate leadership team and elected members on best practices for communicating the council’s vision and strategic priorities. Thinking outside the box and using innovative and effective communication techniques, you will help enhance our reputation, build public confidence in our work and change people’s lives.

About You

We are seeking an experienced and strategic communications professional with a proven track record of delivering high-impact communications plans. You’ll have substantial expertise in media relations, including managing campaigns and crisis communications, as well as developing and executing effective digital marketing and social media strategies. Your ability to provide expert advice and challenge senior leadership, build strong relationships with councillors, external stakeholders, and the media, and generate external income will be crucial.

You’ll also have an understanding of local government and the political landscape. With a commitment to innovation, data-driven decision-making, and best practice, you will ensure we can deliver on the council’s communications strategy. A degree or equivalent substantial experience in communications, marketing, or a related discipline is essential.
