Luton Council is dedicated to improving the lives of our residents by providing top-tier services and support. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Local Area Coordinator to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in strengthening our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Individual & Family Support: Utilise your in-depth experience of working directly with individuals, families, and communities to find practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Partnership & Multi-Agency Working: Leverage your experience in partnership and multi-agency collaborations to enhance service delivery.
  • Action Planning: Understand the issues individuals may present and develop, provide, and review strength-based action plans with individuals and their families.
  • Communication: Use your exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, building strong relationships with individuals, communities, and professionals. Provide constructive challenge where appropriate.
  • Technology Proficiency: Be competent in using computer-based applications and systems, including Microsoft packages and internet research. Develop and present data and reports clearly and concisely.
  • Organisational Skills: Demonstrate your ability to work collaboratively and on your own initiative, managing periods of competing pressures and conflicting demands while maintaining service delivery.
  • Community Engagement: Identify existing resources, assets, and opportunities, working with local communities in a co-produced way.
  • Equality & Legislation: Show your knowledge and understanding of equality issues and legislation, identifying when discrimination occurs and demonstrating a commitment to equal opportunities.
  • Care Act & Welfare Rights: Exhibit your knowledge of the key themes of the Care Act 2014 and welfare rights.
  • Qualifications & Experience: Hold a relevant qualification in health and social care, community development, or equivalent experience working in a community-based setting.
  • Home Visits & Flexibility: Be able to visit individuals and families in their own homes daily and occasionally work outside normal office hours.

About You

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who has experience in community support roles. It is important that you have a strong background in partnership and multi-agency working.

It is vital that you have excellent communication and relationship-building skills as well as proficiency in computer applications and data presentation.

You’ll have strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing demands with the flexibility to visit homes and work outside standard hours as needed.

Applicants applying for this role will need to demonstrate their knowledge of local resources and community co-production and an understanding of equality issues and relevant legislation, whilst being familiar with the Care Act 2014 and welfare rights.

This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.

You must have a relevant qualifications or equivalent community-based experience.

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken.
